Important Facts You Will Need For Your Mauritius Vacation

Thursday, December 3rd, 2009

When you are planning a vacation, having all of the important facts in hand well in advance will help to ensure that your trip will be as pleasant and problem-free as possible.

For American travellers who plan to vacation on Mauritius, one important factor that will be handy to know about in advance is that the metric system is used for weights and measurements on the island. As this is something which many Americans are not overly familiar with, it would be a good idea to either brush up on skills or carry a metric converter, such as a small booklet which contains this information. It may seem like a very minor issue, but when you are on your trip you will see how frequently it will come in handy for everything from asking the distance in directions to purchasing food items while shopping.

If you are wondering if there may be a language barrier, it is not likely that you will have a problem with this. Although most of the residents of Mauritius speak the dialect known as Creole, and basic French is also often used, the official language of the island is English, and many people are fluent in English regardless of which language they prefer to use in their everyday lives.

As a first-time traveller to Mauritius, it will also be necessary for you to know that the island’s monetary unit is the Mauritian Rupee. One dollar is equivalent to thirty rupees. If you wish to have the assistance of a currency converter, they are readily available and will be quite convenient for you. Credit cards are acceptable; and ATM machines are also available in many locations for your convenience.

In order to be welcomed to Mauritius, you will need a valid passport, proof of funds necessary for your stay, adequate traveller’s insurance, and your travel ticket stating that you have your return destination. You will not be required to have extra immunizations in order to visit Mauritius.

While driving on the island is done on the left-hand side of the road, you will be allowed to drive if you possess a valid driver’s license and abide by the island’s driving laws. Renting a car will not be difficult at all if you have your personal documentation.

As long as you take proper common-sense precautions, such as not carrying large amounts of cash and not walking alone at night, you will not have much to worry about in terms of your basic safety.

Even though the island of Mauritius may be radically different from the lifestyle of your home location, all it really takes is exercising an average degree of sensiblity in order to have a good, safe vacation. After you have the basic important information that you will need for your trip so that communication, entrance requirements, and other issues are well prepared for, all that will be left for you to do is plan the nicest trip that you have ever taken, and then have a great time!

A World Without California?

Thursday, December 3rd, 2009

There was a fun song that came out in the nineteen sixties that had the refrain I dont care what you say I wont stay in a world without love. Is it even possible to imagine what a world would be like if we didnt have such a place as wonderful as California? I know imagining America without a California alone is almost impossible to do.

California is so rich with sights and great places to visit that one has to plan not one but many trips there to truly take in all it has to offer. Why a visit to Los Angeles alone can fill a week and you would still leave behind so much to do and see. Here in the home of our great movie industry, the idea of hanging out near the major studios to catch a glimpse of a movie star is pretty hard to resist. And you can pass your time waiting by going to Graumans Chinese Theater to put your own feet in the famous imprints on the walk of fame. There you can see if your shoe size lines up with such greats as Marilyn Monroe, Marlin Brando, Dustin Hoffman or even Lassie.

While in LA dont forget that this is the area of the country where you can check in at the original Disneyland. Yes while the Florida and other locations that have been built since then are wonderful, dont miss the chance to sing Its a Small World After All with the anamatronic figures that will delight you and your children in those historic rides in Disneyland.

Anywhere you go up and down the California coast, one thing will continue to draw your eye is the amazing California coast. The sight of those waves making huge breakers on the rocks and beaches has been the object of art for many painters over the years. If you live in a land-locked state or even if you have enjoyed the coast lines in the gulf states and the eastern seaboard, the California surf will be yet another viewpoint of the majesty of Gods creation in the oceans that grace our fair country.

It might take another whole trip to enjoy the exotic locations all around the city of San Francisco. But give it that time because this is a town you want to take in on foot or by traveling on their famous and historic street cars. For a small city, San Francisco will charm you so thoroughly that you would swear you were in one of the quant and charming villages of Europe, Spain or Greece. The sight of those breath taking hills that the residents have to drive each day will probably bring back some great movie you saw that was filmed there. And its easy to get goose bumps standing on the corner of Haight and Ashbury and reflect on the birth of the Hippy Movement in the early sixties right on that spot.

There is just so much to do up and down this big and diverse state that you will want to have a car at your disposal just to tour the paradise like conditions that residents enjoy there every day. A tour of the wine country in northern California is another experience that has become famous for charming visitors of all ages. You can even retrace the voyage of the characters in the movie Sideways which won an Academy Award and further added to the lore and fame of this wonderful part of California.

California may not steal your heart away from your home town and state. But one this is for sure. Your trip to California will leave you with dozens of exciting memories and it will leave you with something even more lasting. You will come home with a determination that you have to get back to California and continue to enjoy the many treats this great American state has to offer.

Plan a Cheap Summer Vacation in 8 Easy Steps

Thursday, December 3rd, 2009

Are you on a budget? If so, planning a summer vacation may literally be the last thing on your mind. Luckily, there are many travel deals and discounts available. By taking advantage of these deals and discounts and with careful planning, you can easily have a great summer vacation, even with limited financial resources.

So, how can you plan a cheap summer vacation in 8 easy steps?

1 Decide on a Destination

We all have ideal summer vacation destinations. Pick your top two or three favorites. Which would be cheaper? If on a budget, keep costs in mind. You want to have the vacation of your dreams, but make sure you plan a trip you can actually afford.

When choosing your destination, keep seasons in mind. Some vacation destinations, like Hawaii and Florida, are popular all year round. Others, like Colorado, are season specific. Colorado is most popular with skiers in the winter. You are likely to find more summer travel deals and discounts because it is considered their off-season.

2 Decide on Your Dates of Travel

Once you have a destination in mind, choose your travel dates. If on a budget, consider shortening your trip. Yes, you may be accustomed to weeklong vacations, but what if you cant afford one? Opt for a three or five day trip instead; you automatically save money.

When choosing your travel dates, keep events in mind. The more activities that are happening around town, the more expensive hotels rooms are and they harder they are to come across. Try to avoid the weekend of July 4th, when a popular concert is taking place, or a business convention.

3 Visit Online Travel Websites

If opting for a hotel, go to the well-known travel websites, like Priceline.com or Orbtiz.com. If opting for a private vacation rental, focus on websites designed for these rentals. Price compare. Different hotels and private vacation rentals have different fees. Online travel websites are known for their moneysaving deals on travel packages. Save money by booking your airfare, hotel, and car rental in one large package.

4 Price Compare Again

Unfortunately, online travel websites do not always give you the best deals. Luckily, it is easy to tell. They should give you the names of the hotels, car rental companies, and airlines. Visit their websites and request more quotes. Compare the two. Go with the cheapest.

5 Book Your Travel Plans

Once you have found the cheapest travel package or independent reservations for a hotel, car rental, and your flight, make your travel plans. Many experts claim the best time to book reservations is early Tuesday or Wednesday morning.

6 Determine How Much Money You Have Left

Since you already booked your airline reservations, car rental, and hotel, focus on the other aspects of your trip. These include food, activities, attractions, souvenirs, and so forth. For example, if you had $1,500 to spend and your airfare, hotel, and car rental totaled $900 for the week, you have $600 left.

7 Estimate the Rest of Your Travel Costs

Once again, you already booked your hotel, car rental, and airline tickets. Focus on attraction admission costs, activity rental fees, food, and souvenirs. Visit online travel websites to familiarize yourself with local activities, attractions, and restaurants. Examine online menus or attractions to get an average cost idea. Then, estimate the cost of each meal, activity, and so forth. You now have a good idea how much you can expect to spend on your summer vacation.

8 Compare and Cut Expenses if Needed

In step 7, you estimated the cost of travel and in step 6, you determined how much money you had available to spend. Compare the two. If your vacation looks like it may be more than you can afford, start cutting corners. Opt for a fast food restaurant, instead of a sit down restaurant one or two nights, try to find parks and other attractions with low or no admission fees, and so forth.
