Traveling at the Last Minute?

…Tips for Booking Hotels

Whether you’re doing it intentionally or it’s just an unfortunate twist of circumstances, traveling at the last minute can be nerve-wracking. That is, if you come with an unprepared mindset. Since traveling unprepared can sometimes give you trouble regarding hotel bookings, here are tips on how you could land a place to stay even if you’re making travel plans at the last minute:

Look for hotels at local websites.
Websites offering tips and last minute booking deals abound but not many of them can be very helpful if you’re trying to actually get accommodated. Instead of using websites that cater to a national or even international crowd, consider using local websites. These sites oven offer better (read: better) listings of hotels if you’re traveling last minute. Global sites are often simply too expansive to actually give you the good deals.

Use multiple sites.
It’s rare to find last minute hotel bookings that offer reasonable prices in only one site. Use several different sites so you can compare. You might even come across really great deals terrific if you’re traveling on a budget.

Look for a local travel agent.
Don’t rely too much on your trusty travel agent. Even they sometimes don’t get to help in terms of last minute hotel bookings during your travels. Instead, look up travel agencies in the locality where you’re traveling to. You could probably find them online, at tourism websites or online yellow pages.

These local travel agencies have a better access on the actual availability of hotel rooms in their area. They should they’re located there. Call them up or send an e-mail to inquire.

Ask the local tourism office.
If you’re traveling to a popular destination, they usually have local tourism offices that you can turn to for assistance. It’s the local government’s way to show hospitability in order to encourage tourists to come visit. If you need booking for last minute hotels for your travel, try checking those in charge of local tours. They could guide you in finding a nice, safe place to stay for the duration of your trip.

An advantage here is that not many people do this often they prefer the more beaten path of calling hotels, airlines and travel agencies. And since you’ll be talking with the tourism office, you might want to get a few tips on finding the best hotels where you could experience the local flavors and offerings of your destination.

Check offers from low cost airlines.
Many low cost airlines have affiliated hotels. These range from 4 to 5 star hotels to more simple accommodations courtesy of inns and hostels. You might want to check their websites for availability in case you’re traveling any time soon. Many of these affiliated hotels can accept last minute bookings. An advantage: if you use the low cost airline for travel, you get all the information you need including hotel bookings from only one website.

Check out package tours.
Sometimes, last minute hotel booking problems can be solved by simply checking out bundled tours. Some airlines, such as major carriers, might offer package tours that include not just hotel accommodations but also rental cars.

If you book a flight with any of these airlines, you could take advantage of their offers, get an airplane ticket, book a last minute hotel room and even have a car pick you up from and to the airport.

Planning a Cheap Summer Vacation: Your Booking Options Reviewed

Planning a Cheap Summer Vacation: Your Booking Options Reviewed

Are you gearing up to plan your summer vacation? If you are on a budget, you may wonder how you should book your vacation. Which approach gets you the best deal? Continue reading on to find out.

When it comes to planning a summer vacation, you usually have three booking options. They include using a local travel agent, an online travel website, or making your reservations independently? Which option saves you the most money?

As for local travel agents, it usually depends on who you know. If you personally know a travel agent, they may be willing to take the extra step to help you get a better deal. Otherwise, travel agents are designed more for convenience. You dont want to spend hours booking a vacation, so they do the work for you. You tell them where you want to go, when, and how much money you have to spend. They will give you an ideal arrangement and help you make the plans.

Although you will find a variance, some travel agents like to deal with or have special arrangements with hotels, airlines, and car rental companies. This may be a business arrangement or a personal preference based on previous experiences. Either way, you dont always get the best deal with local travel agents. If you are concerned more about saving time and getting the best quality vacation, doing business with a local travel agent is ideal. On the other hand, if you want to save the most money, continue reading on for your additional options.

As for online travel websites, there are many to choose from. Well-known and popular websites include Priceline.com, Orbtiz.com, and Travelocity.com. Online travel websites are nice because they save consumers time. When comparing the cost of airfare, you can compare the rates of five different airlines in less than 2 minutes. If you book your vacation in the form of a travel package, you save time by planning most of your trip with one simple purchase. Saving time is nice, but remember your goal is to save money.

Although you will find a variance, online travel websites usually offer the best deals for travel packages. Do you need to book a stay at a hotel, need a car rental, and airline tickets? You are likely to find the best deals on these travel websites. If you only need to make one or two arrangements or cant find an ideal summer vacation package, it may best to avoid them.

As for making each of your travel plans separately and independently, it may seem like a big inconvenience. Luckily, it is easier to find the best deals. Many airlines offer special one-way trips to popular vacation destinations. Hotels occasionally offer special deals, like a free or discounted nights stay with the purchase of five other nights, and so forth. The best deals are advertised right on their websites. A standard internet search can help you find these websites. It does take more time, but you may be surprised with what you find.

For most travelers, it is a tossup between online travel websites and independent reservations. Although online travel websites usually offer the best deals for vacation packages, it is easy to check. You should get the name of the airline, hotel, and car rental company. Visit their websites and request another quote. Add the three and compare to your quoted travel package costs. Do you save money? You should. If not, it would be better to make your travel plans independently.

Costa Rica Vacation – Best Flight Out of Town

After my girlfriend and I took a look at the various locations and the entertainment provided we made a decision. It seemed the best thing to do was to do a 10-day trip. We thought that 5 days on the coast and 5 days inland around San Jose and Monteverde would give us a nice visit and allow us to see a wide area of the country.

I got on the phone and called a local travel agent and had a little talk. I learned quite a bit. You can book your own flight because these days there aren’t many tour discounts. That is becoming a thing of the past. But with tours you have it made easy for you. You are picked up and directed to the different restaurants and entertainment available to you.

September, October, and November are the rainy and hurricane season. Prime season is January, February, March, and April. You will pay top dollar for these times of year. It seems there is a small window in the beginning of December and again for the month of May for you to get good rates.

When I talked to the travel agent she said she had been to Costa Rica a couple of years ago. She said that the traffic in San Jose was miserable. I am from Seattle and I hate traffic. It seems I can never get away from it. When I said that I had issues with traffic I was told that I could fly into Liberia Airport the other side of the island and avoid the capital all together.

It seemed to me that spending one day in the capital would be sufficient. I wanted to spend the rest of my 5 days inland at Monteverde and visit the Arenal volcano. So I decided that I would fly in from Houston Airport to Liberia Airport on the coast of Costa Rica spend my 5 days there, and then I would fly out of the San Jose airport back home.

I was still unsure of when I would be able to actually take this trip but I did ask the travel agent to give me some sample rates for flights. She gave me Wednesday thru Thursday bookings because she said that you get better rates booking that way instead of weekend to weekend. It allows the hotels to maximize their occupancy. You might keep that factoid in mind when asking the boss for time off.

The agent gave me sample prices for flights. For the high season of January, February, March, April, the plane fare on Continental and Delta were $655.00 per person. In the off-season the plane fare was $502.00 so at least there is a choice.

The first thing I have to do is get a passport and that has worried me. With all the changes brought about by 911 I know it is nowhere near as easy as it used to be to get a passport. I had heard that it can take you up to a year to get one. I asked the travel agent about this and she said that things were running much smoother and it was taking a little more than 12 weeks to get your passport.

When planning your trip, consider your comfort. The Caribbean side of the island can be more humid, especially in the summer months.
