What to Bring When on a Greece Vacation

Greece may be one of the most fascinating cities in the world. With its rich history and diverse culture, you will surely have fun touring the city and seeing the ancient structures that has defined a great ancient civilization. But how beautiful the place is does not mean that you will be having a good time while on a Greece vacation. Your trip will always depend on how well you packed and how well you planned each and every detail of the trip.

Remember that no matter how great a city is, it is still not your home town and therefore, you will not be as familiar with it s you are when you are on a city that you have lived in. Because of this, it is important that you always be prepared for any eventualities and to always have back-ups inside your bag.

Yes, what you bring to the trip can help you a lot. It will determine whether you will be comfortable on the trip, whether you will be safe and whether you will get lost. Here are some of the things that you can bring to your trip in Greece to help make the trip more comfortable and enjoyable.

Map
This is one of the essentials of the trip. Without it, the chance of getting lost is greater. If you cant find a map before you leave, you can always buy from the airport or you can get one from the hotel lobby where you will be saying. If however you will be backpacking, make sure that you first get a map from the local tourism office or from the local bookstore. Check the language used before buying.

Another tip with maps is to always have the place you are staying encircled. Ask the receptionist to do it. That way, you will have a reference just in case you get lost. You can just easily point to the encircled place if you want to ask for directions. Remember that not all of the locals will be able to understand and speak English.

Phrase book
This is another vital ingredient in making sure that you will be prepared should something happen. If you cant find a small phrasebook, you can always ask the hotel or the place where you are staying for some phrases that you may need. For instance, you may want to ask how to say, Where is this place? Or maybe the phrase Help. Think of phrases that will help you get help should you need it.

Comfortable shoes
When on a vacation, try to use a comfortable running shoes. Remember that you will be walking a lot during the trip. It will not be good to suddenly have your shoes broken in the middle of a tour or develop muscle spasms from all the walking. Comfy shoes will also make you more mobile and more able to run should you need to run during emergency situations.

Raincoat
You will never know what the weather will be. So it is always good to be prepared. When going out, make sure that you have a raingear with you always. That way, should it rain, you will have something to protect you. A jacket will do with a hood but you can also bring a foldable umbrella.

Small Shops and Centers make great Stops along the Way

Small Shops and Centers make great Stops along the Way

Now we’ve come to my favorite pastime: shopping. I really couldn’t resist the opportunity to talk about the awesome stores, malls, and shopping centers that abound in Seattle Washington. The shopping alone is enough to garner a visit in my opinion, even without the many other wonderful things that this city has to offer.

Whether your shopping interests lie in art, clothing, shoes, chocolates, or wines there is plenty here to keep you busy for quite some time. Just keep in mind that you will either need room in your luggage or to ship your new purchases home. There are also weight restrictions for luggage if you are flying so you want to be careful about how much you plan to bring with you. A good thing to find before your shopping trip would be a UPS Store or a Mailboxes Etc from which you can ship your purchases home.

The first great shopping place in Seattle is Pike Place Market. This market has a history as rich as the city itself. It has seen immigration, internment, and many other processes over the course of the last century. Be sure to find out more of its history while you are there. I like Pike Place because you can get fresh foods here that we often do without while on vacation. This isn’t a place to shop for souvenirs so much as it is a place to shop for your next meal.

If you are shopping for artworks or antiques, then Pioneer Square is definitely the place to be. On the first Thursday of each month, Pioneer Square sponsors a gallery walk that begins at 6:00 pm. Shops, galleries, and restaurants stay open later and hold an art walk. This is truly a great place to shop for gifts, goodies, and ideas. I hope you have a great deal of fun in the process.

I have been a lover of books since I was a very young child. I can think of few things I would rather by for my children or myself than a good book or two. In fact, I generally have a rather difficult time limiting my purchases to one or two. With all the amazing bookstores around the country, I have found the Elliot Bay Book Company to be one of the most enjoyable. If you get the chance, I highly encourage you to check this store out. I believe you will very much enjoy what you see here.

Seattle also has plenty of malls that offer the typical mall anchor stores and even several specialty and high-end stores. I tend to shy away from those in search of stores and shops that are much more intimate and cozy. I know that not everyone feels the same and these giant mega malls are a great deal of fun for many who travel. I just can’t bring myself to work up much excitement while on vacation for something I can do at home. Perhaps I’m strange.

My hope is that I have given you a couple of ideas for shopping that you might not have otherwise noticed among the many options for your spending dollars while in Seattle. Take the time to look around at the small storefronts rather than the big flashy signs that are often so eye-catching. The smaller stores will offer something much more than the bigger chains ever will, personal service. It is becoming a lost art in today’s society but I’m hoping that by frequenting businesses such as this we can see a comeback.

San Francisco offers Great fun for Kids of All Ages

San Francisco offers Great fun for Kids of All Ages

If you are looking for a great place to visit and bring the kids, look no further than San Francisco, California. This city is a wonderful vacation destination not only for grownups for little ones alike. There is so much to see and do that will appeal to young and old alike.

The real beauty of San Francisco to me is the fact that many of the best attractions for kids are also educational as well. Even better is the fact that the educational values are so cleverly disguised as fun, your kids won’t even know what hit them. In fact, mom and dad might find themselves learning a thing or two along the way. You might even find yourselves having just as much fun as your little ones are.

My suggestion though is to be careful not to overdo it. We all want our kids to have fun and enjoy the vacation experience but if you cram too many activities into a small span of time, you will have children who are overloaded, cranky, and tired. This will make your day miserable and will affect their memories of the time they spend here. I will give a brief overview of several great things for kids and families to do in San Francisco, hopefully this will help you choose more selectively the activities you feel are can’t miss activities and those that you can live without. Also remember if you don’t get to do everything this trip, don’t try to force activities in. Consider is a good reason to come back.

The first thing that I want to tell you about is the Exploratorium. This is definitely one of those destinations that disguises education as fun. The great thing about this one is that it will not only appeal to the little ones but also offer education and fun for the grown ups as well. If I were to point out one ‘must do’ thing for your family trip to San Francisco this would be it.

If you’re planning to be around Fisherman’s Wharf (which I highly recommend) you might find Pier 39 to be an excellent destination. The Magic Carpet Ride is sure to please everyone in the family and the little ones will love the San Francisco Carousel. The Pier 39 Marina offers powerboat and sailboat rides that are sure to please the entire family and the Riptide Arcade will delight the little gamers in the family. Perhaps the biggest attraction though, is the Aquarium of the Bay. This is another activity that I highly recommend. There are many more activities available at Pier 39, you’ll just have to check it out and see what you find most appealing to you. I could personally plan a trip to Frisco and never leave the Fisherman’s Wharf.

Fairyland is a great destination if you’re looking for a relatively inexpensive day of fun. With the admission price for everyone over the age of 1 being 6 dollars, it is a really inexpensive way to spend the day. A day at Fairyland will definitely be a highlight of your trip for younger children and will provide parents and other family members with some fond memories as well.

Another fun thing to do for the entire family is to take a Jelly Belly Factory Tour at the Jelly Belly Candy Company. The tour is free and offered daily between the hours of 9 am and 4pm. While it isn’t the height of educational fun, kids will definitely think it’s cool to see how these tasty treats are made.

I saved the best two for last. The San Francisco Zoo and Six Flags Marine World. I cannot say enough about either of these attractions. The magic they hold for children is undeniable and well worth the price of the tickets. The best advice, by far that I can give you about bringing your children to San Francisco, California is to relax and have a good time. Everyone will have a much better vacation experience if you take that advice.
